Junior Football 2011

Junior football at Metro FC comprises of 5th-9th Grades and our teams play in the Central 7's competition along with Mt Albert Ponsonby, Lynn Avon Utd, Central United and Western Springs. The junior section of the club continues to grow from year to year as the popularity of football in New Zealand increases. Metro FC also has a close working relationship with neighbours Gladstone Primary, ensuring teams from the school can play Saturday football under the Metro Gladstone banner.

Metro FC was one of the first clubs to initiate the 4v4 games (no goalkeepers) for 5th/6th grade teams, this follows a world trend in providing young players with more opportunity to touch the ball during games and more interaction with their team mates. Grades 7th- 9th play 7v7 with goalkeepers,on half size fields. This introduces players to the concepts of spacial awareness, team football and ranges of passing.

So many teams does bring the added need for coaches and managers. We are lucky at Metro FC to have such a dedicated number of volunteers who manage and coach teams during the season. Metro FC is dedicated to providing kids with quality coaching, and as such in 2011 has offered coaches the NZ Football 'Small Whites' Coaching course to all junior coaches to get them started on the coaching ladder, meaning most junior coaches have a good base for coaching.
