Youth Football 2011

Youth Football at Metro FC comprises of teams in grades 10 to 17. These are the ages when football begins to get a 'competitive' edge and the kids begin to increase their knowledge of the game and their appreciation for important aspects of football such as spacial awareness, the importance of team work, and their own skills as budding footballers.

Metro FC offers teams of different skill ranges and levels of competition wanted. Where possible/required teams are trialled prior to the season to ensure players end up in an appropriate level for their skills. Typically this is for the grades 10 and 11 where teams are first graded after moving up from an ungraded 9th grade and as this is the stage where skill identification is most important.

Grades 10 and 11 continue to play 7v7 on a half size field as they did in 9th grade however now the offside rule and throw ins etc are strictly adhered to ready the young players for moving up into 12th grade where players then move to full size fields with 11 players per team. This sequential development is important for players to develop their range of passing, vision, and team work to provide a solid base for future skill development.

Players in 10th and 11th grade have access to a variety of tournaments to pit their skills against the best in the Auckland region. Metro FC traditionally does well in the 10/12th grade divisions with our 2009 10th Grade Premier (2) and 2009 10th Grade Division 2 team winning their respective leagues.

So many teams does bring the added need for coaches and managers. We are lucky at Metro FC to have such a dedicated number of volunteers who manage and coach teams during the season. Metro FC is dedicated to providing kids with quality coaching, and as such in 2011 has offered coaches the NZ Football 'Small Whites' Coaching course to all junior coaches to get them started on the coaching ladder, meaning most junior coaches have a good base for coaching.

The Sub Menus have a range of information about our Youth teams!

Good luck to all Junior Teams for the 2011 Season!
