METRO FC - WET WEATHER POLICY

Winter always brings its disruptions to football, with the constant rain, wind and then, of course, the unseasonal fine weather.

This brings a range of problems for us at Metro FC, especially with our limited number of training areas, with no specialised 'training areas'. As a result, all the areas we train on are needed for match day play at the weekend, this means we must look after the surface with increased vigilance.

The usual scenario is, Monday to Friday, Auckland City Council (ACC) will update their voice service with any field closures by 2pm daily BUT its also important to use common sense, just because the field is open doesnt mean it is OK to train.

If the ground is open but the weather is extremely bad - PLEASE DO NOT TRAIN - this will preserve the grounds for the next day and also the weekend. One days rest during bad weather can really help the preservation of the grass, especially with the dry summer the grass is in a poor state for this time of year.

To check ground closures call ACC on (09)379-2024 then follow voice prompts and listen for 'Alan Wood Reserve' or 'Phyllis St Reserve'. The lights at Alan Wood Reserve will not work if the grounds have been closed by the council. Cancellations are also played on Newstalk ZB (1080am) after the weather on the hour from 3pm, again listen for the grounds mentioned above.

Cancellations/Postponements or Relocations of Saturday games is usually done by 3pm on a Friday and can be checked following the news section of the Auckland Football Federation (AFF) Website - http://www.aucklandfootball.org.nz please check these on Fridays and if weather deteriorates worse check on Saturday morning aswell. If cancellations etc come through early these will also be posted on the Metro FC Website under 'NEWS' and mailed to coaches/managers where possible.

PLEASE DO NOT TRAIN ON A GROUND IF IT HAS BEEN CLOSED BY THE COUNCIL OR IF BY TRAINING YOU WILL DAMAGE THE SURFACE EXCESSIVELY

Hopefully by following these guidelines we should have more games on the Saturday even when the mid winter weather hits. If in doubt please contact one of the junior/youth coordinators who are happy to advise where possible.
