Junior Football 2017

Our 5th to 8th Grade teams play Whole of Football Plan at the Club grounds on Friday nights and Saturday mornings. The 9-12th Grade teams compete in the AFF Junior Competition against other Auckland teams, home and away, on Saturday mornings.

How does Junior football work at Metro FC?

Junior football at Metro FC is made up of 5th-12th Grades. Our teams play within the club but combine with Gladstone, St Francis & Owairaka Primary Schools.

The junior section of the club continues to grow as the popularity of football in New Zealand increases. We have a close working relationship with the three primary schools mentioned earlier, especially our long partnership with Gladstone. This ensures teams from the school can play Saturday football under the Metro Gladstone banner.

Our 6th to 8th Grade are referred to as our WoFP teams, with our 9th-12th Grade sides being referred to as our Junior teams.

Our 9th Grade to 12th Grade play in the AFF Junior Competition, competing against teams across the Auckland region.

We use the Whole of Football Plan

Metro FC was one of the first clubs to take on board the Whole of Football Plan (WoFP). This is a NZ Football award-winning initiative where players

  • have a complete football experience in one hour
  • rotate through 3 x 8 minute stations where they learn football skills
  • have 2 x 12 minute games.

When do we play?

Grade 6 plays Friday nights at 5.30 pm at Metro FC.

Grades 7 and 8 play Saturdays  at 8 am at Metro FC.

Grade 9-12 plays on Saturday mornings at home and away.

AFF Junior Football 9th - 12th Grade

We grade teams from 9th Grade up, this is to ensure players are placed in teams which will is best suited to their skill range and aptitude. This will ensure their continued improvement, and enjoyment of their competition during the season.

  • Grade 9&10 play 7 v 7 on a half-size field with correct throw ins but with offside being discouraged by officials and coaches.
  • Grades 11&12 play 9 v 9 on a half-size field using the offside rule and throw ins, etc

Metro FC is serious about the new rules added at 10th Grade level. It readies the young players for moving up into 13th Grade. We think this sequential progress is important for players to develop their range of passing, vision, and team work, and to provide a solid base for future skill development.

The key for all football at this level is that it is played in the "spirit of the game"

We offer training to all Junior coaches

There is an added need for coaches and managers with so many teams. We are lucky at Metro FC to have such a dedicated number of volunteers who manage and coach teams during the season.

Metro FC is dedicated to providing kids with quality coaching. In 2017 we have offered the NZ Football WoFP Introduction Course to all junior coaches to get them started on the coaching ladder. This means most junior coaches have a good base for coaching.

The sub menus have a range of information about our junior teams!

Good luck to all Junior Teams for the 2017 Season!
