Youth Football 13th - 19th Grade

Metro have a number of youth teams ranging from 13th – 19th Grade for both Boys and Girls. As players move up from 12th Grade (Junior Football) to 13th Grade, we have several different pathways that they can choose to play:

  • Competitive Regional Football (NRFL): Players who choose this pathway are wanting to play against the best players in other clubs in the Northern Region (Waikato to Northland). Metro players who are wanting this pathway will move to Auckland City through our MOU Association with them. Games are played Sundays on a home and away basis. Training will be at least 2 -3 times per week, and there will be additional Academy costs associated to cover costs of higher-level Coaching with NZF Qualified Coaches.

  • Community Football (NRF): Players in this pathway will be graded into teams depending on their abilities shown through trials (depending on numbers per grade). This can be mixed gender if girls want to play with the boys or Girls only league. Games are played on Saturday’s from 12pm onwards (except for 19th Grade Boys who play on Sundays instead).

Youth Teams playing numbers:

13th Grade Girls: 9 v 9 on a half-sized field. 11 – 12 players per team
approximately. Retreating Line rules still apply as they were in the 11th/12thGrade competition prior.

Boys: 13th, 14th, 15th, 17th and 19th Grade: 11 v 11 on a Full Field. 14 players approximately per team.

Girls: 14th, 16th and 19th Grade: 11 v 11 on a Full Field. 14 players approximately per team.

Season:

Start date TBA for 2025 End Date TBA for 2025

*please note the last game of season date is subject to change

Community Football:

The first part of the season is a grading round where each team will play the other teams in their group once (usually 7 rounds). Once Grading has been finished, teams are placed into their respective Competition Group based upon their previous results and group standings. This is to ensure that each game is relatively even and competitive so that each player is getting the development and enjoyment from the game as they require.

Gear Required:  Metro FC shirt, black shorts, black socks, Shin pads, can be purchased from "we will soon be announcing info regarding new kit supplier"

We offer training to all our Youth coaches

There is an added need for coaches and managers with so many teams. We are lucky at Metro FC to have such a dedicated number of volunteers who manage and coach teams during the season.

Metro FC is dedicated to providing kids with quality coaching. We offer the NZF Junior Level 1 Coaching Course to all youth coaches to get them started on the coaching ladder, meaning most coaches have a good base for coaching.

The sub-menus have a range of information about our Youth teams!

Good luck to all Youth Teams for the season!
